Brutalist Typeface: Churchward Roundsquare from Bugonia

I recently watched Bugonia on Netflix and was captivated by the typography used in the film and on its poster. That led me to discover Vasilis Marmatakis, an Athens-based graphic designer who has created a number of memorable movie posters. His work is presented with striking minimalism on his website, marmatakis.net. I pasted a few of those posters below.

The font used for Bugonia is Churchward Roundsquare. It was created by Joseph Churchward, a Samoan-born New Zealand graphic designer and typographer. What I love about it is how blunt and geometric it feels, so I wanted to highlight it here on this blog. To me, it looks like a human interpretation of what an alien alphabet for English might look like.
